Kevin Albert

Co-Founder and CEO

Kevin Albert is the CEO and co-founder of Canvas, a construction robotics company that is empowering skilled construction workers to build in bold new ways. Canvas has developed a new class of robotic tool that helps solve some of the construction industry’s most intractable challenges, including an unprecedented labor shortage, unpredictable quality, and chronic schedule and budget overruns. By combining worker skill and experience with the digital precision and machine learning capabilities of a robot, Canvas is enabling drywall finishing contractors to radically improve project outcomes while protecting the people doing the work. Kevin has more than 20 years of experience in the development of rugged robotic systems, including fundamental contributions to some of Boston Dynamics’ seminal works, Big Dog and LS3. After his time at Boston Dynamics, Kevin started the robotics research group at Otherlab focused on bringing robotics and automation out of the factory and into the hands of workers. He has run numerous robotics research programs, including collaborations with Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and commercial aerospace partners to develop robots designed for deployment. Kevin is a graduate of Lehigh University and has a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT.

Even with the invention of the bazooka and the box, there were still the same 4-5 steps to deliver a finished wall. Canvas has fundamentally rewritten the rules of the game. The Canvas machine is now an all-in-one, highly precise and accurate, best-in-class robotics system — and we’re excited for the further innovation it will unlock.

Maria Telleria

Co-Founder and CTO

As co-founder and CTO of Canvas, Maria Telleria leads multiple engineering teams, including software, hardware, process, product strategy and quality assurance. Prior to starting Canvas, Maria was a company lead at Otherlab, an independent research laboratory focused on developing hard- tech ideas from research to product. Maria is the lead author on eight patents and five patent applications related to Canvas systems and is a co-inventor on an additional three patents related to pneumatic robots. Maria holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from MIT, where she also co-founded the MIT Grad Catalyst Program with the mission to give minority students the tools and information required to pursue advanced degrees in science and technology. Maria was recently honored by being included on the Inc. Female Founders 100 list.

I’m most proud of the team we’ve built at Canvas, which is composed of everyone from top roboticists to master tradespeople, all united in our mission to make drywall finishing work better. It’s also exciting that one result of our work is that we are helping to make construction more accessible to minorities—and more sustainable for our future building needs.

Regis Vincent

VP, Engineering

Regis Vincent leads the software, firmware, process and hardware teams. His role is to deliver a new generation of tool to drywall finishers, by making the Canvas robotic system as easy to use and as safe as possible. Prior to joining Canvas, Regis worked for several years at SRI International on large-scale robot deployment, penetration and security, and led development of an autonomous motorcycle robot. He also led a software team in a powered-clothing robotic company. Regis has published several papers in SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping technology )and multi-robot coordination. He holds a Ph.D in artificial intelligence from the University of Nice.

Role:
Lead the software, firmware, process and hardware team. My role is to deliver a new generation of tool to drywall finisher, by making
the Canvas robotic system as easy to use and as safe as possible.

Construction, and drywall specifically, are results-driven, technology-shy industries. Canvas is earning the trade’s trust by providing it with a very reliable, resilient and efficient tool. Our goal is to improve the process of drywall finishing, while making the trade even more productive with our tool.

Alan Federman

VP, Finance

After spending the early part of his finance and accounting career at large companies, Alan says he “caught the start-up bug” about 10 years ago and ever since has been building and leading finance teams at early-stage technology companies, including ClassPass, KitchenSurfing, Patreon, and now Canvas.
Alan leads Canvas’s accounting and finance functions, which encompasses keeping the books in good order, forecasting the results of future operations and ensuring the day-to-day operations are running smoothly. Alan has a BA in English from Tufts University and an MBA in accounting from Bentley University.

It’s been incredibly rewarding to work for a company whose product has such a positive impact on its users; literally revolutionizing the way they do their jobs!
